The Lithuanian World Center's Annual Fundraiser "Bon Voyage - Cruise Around the World"

The Lithuanian World Center is having its annual fundraiser “Bon Voyage – Cruise Around the World” on Saturday, October 8th, 2011 in the Lithuanian World Center’s Youth Hall (Gymnasium).  The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with crew cocktails and ethnic appetizers. Captain’s dinner will be served at 7:30pm. Entertainment will be provided by Mexican, Irish, Polish, Lithuanian, Chinese, and Japanese ethnic groups. This event is the main annual fundraiser for the Lithuanian World Center. Please join us in supporting the Lithuanian World Center’s Mission – to promote and preserve Lithuanian culture and heritage.  The Center is a wonderful resource for the community and its visitors to learn and appreciate Lithuanian culture.

PLC  Vasaros Gegužinės loterijos laimėtojai

Artėjant rudeniui, trumpėjant dienoms,  į langą beldžiantis lietui, smagu prisiminti praėjusią vasarą. Pasaulio Lietuvių Centre kas vasarą vyksta daug renginių, vienas  jų – tradicinė Vasaros Gegužinė. Tai Moterų Renginių Komiteto organizuojama  šventė, kuri sukviečia nuolatinius centro lankytojus ir svečius pabendrauti, pasidžiaugti vasaros šiluma, skaniu lietuvišku maistu, skambia muzika. Dalyvaudami Gegužinėje ir jos metu vykstančioje loterijoje svečiai remia mūsų visų bendrus namus – Pasaulio Lietuvių Centrą. Šiais metais Gegužinės data buvo perkelta iš rugpjūčio galo į rugsėjo pradžią, ji  vyko per ilgąjį Darbo dienos savaitgalį, baiminomės, kad susirinks mažiau žmonių, tačiau be reikalo, nes jų susirinko tik šiek tiek mažiau nei pernai. Šventė praėjo gražiai – švietė saulė, klegėjo juokas, kvepėjo šviežiai keptas kugelis ir dešrelės su kopūstais, pasistiprinus linksmintis, šokti kvietė akordeono muzika.

Norime padėkoti visiems dalyvavusiems ir savo dalyvavimu parėmusiems didžiausią Čikagos apylinkėse esantį lietuvybės židinį. Lemont Art Museum Shows Pride in Lithuanian Culture's Past, Present

Impish devils and soaring angels are among the surprising finds in a basement museum at the Lithuanian World Center.

The Lithuanian Museum of Art, 14911 127th St.,  has three galleries: a permanent collection of fine art and sculpture; folk art featuring looms for traditional weaving, decorated eggs and straw ornaments; and a room of carved-wood statues and scenes.

“A lot of Lithuanian art is ethnic, organic. Nature is a big theme in Lithuanian art in general,” said Virginia Rimeika, who described herself as “friend and helper” of Dalia Slenys, the museum’s director and pottery artist.
