Laureate of the National Culture and Art Prize of the Republic of Lithuania 1927-2013

As we approach the 100th anniversary of Liūnė Sutema’s birth, we commemorate her life and legacy. To mark this milestone, soil from her hometown of Buknaičiai will be scattered on her grave.

The soil was collected from the meadows of her childhood, near a hundred-year-old oak tree, along with an acorn—a symbol of eternal life, strength, and respect.

Thanks to the nonprofit organization PoPaJAV, NFP – Spring of Lithuanian Poetry in the USA, the Society of Lithuanian Writers in the USA, and the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, as well as letters and direct appeals to those who not only listened but truly understood, the year 2027 has been declared the Year of Liūnė Sutema by resolution of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.

We sincerely thank Lithuanian Seimas member Julius Sabatauskas and others for their help in making this possible. The announcement was made personally on October 2, 2024, in Alytus, Lithuania, immediately following the vote. During the event, documentary filmmaker Arvydas Reneckis and producer Sandra Avižienytė presented Liūnė Sutema: Kai datos nesvarbu (Liūnė Sutema: When Dates Don’t Matter).

Let it be. Let it be like a fairy tale.

This event will be held primarily in the Lithuanian language, which may make it challenging for non-speakers to engage as full participants. Nonetheless, all are welcome to attend!

Lietuvos respublikos nacionalinės kultūros ir meno premijos laureatė 1927-2013

Artėjant Liūnės Sutemos gimimo 100-mečiui poetės gyvenimo ir mirties metinių proga ant jos kapo Lietuvių tautinėse kapinėse bus išbarstyta gimtųjų Buknaičių žemė, pasemta iš šimtamečio ąžuolo paunksmės ir pasodintos gilės – amžinos gyvybės, stiprybės ir pagarbos simbolis. JAV lietuvių poezijos pavasario, Lietuvos rašytojų draugijos JAV ir Lietuvos respublikos seimo dėka, po parašytų laiškų ir kreipimosi tiesiogiai į tuos kurie ne tik išgirdo, bet ir girdi, šalia kitų garbingų asmenų, 2027-ieji Lietuvos respublikos seimo nutarimu paskelbti Liūnės Sutemos metais.

Nuoširdžiai noriu padėkoti Lietuvos seimo nariui Juliui Sabatauskui ir kitiems už pagalbą pristatant ir paskelbiant 2024-ųjų metų spalio 2 d. šią žinią , Arvydo Reneckio ir Sandros Avižienytės dokumentinės medžiagos – filmo pristatymo metu Alytaus mieste, Lietuvoje.
