The Lithuanian World Center continues its mission of helping you explore and connect with your Lithuanian roots. Join us for an English-language workshop during which you will learn how to make a traditional Lithuanian straw ornament.
Description:
Lithuanian straw ornaments, or šiaudinukai, are made from straws that are threaded or tied together into geometric shapes such as stars, pyramids, and other three-dimensional forms, reflecting patterns found throughout Lithuanian folk art and nature. Šiaudinukai have traditionally been used to decorate Lithuanian homes, especially during winter and holiday seasons when fresh flowers were unavailable. We invite you to participate in this age-old tradition by making your own šiaudinukas at our workshop “How to Make a Straw Ornament” on Thursday, November 20, at the Lithuanian World Center in Lemont, IL. This beginner-level workshop guides participants in creating one paper straw ornament following a recommended design. Materials, tools, and instructions will be provided.
Instructor:
The workshop will be instructed by Lithuanian artist Laura Lapinskas.
Cost & Registration:
Fee $30. Please register by calling (630) 257-8787 or by writing to [email protected]. Payments may be made via check or Zelle. The workshop is limited to 20 participants.
