Problems with the Old Roof
In recent years, we noticed water infiltrating the west end of the building with increasing frequency. After rain, new stains would appear on the ceiling tiles in the Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis Mission sacristy, the Lithuanian Foundation and Lithuanian World Center administration offices, and the conference room. This was a serious concern, as water infiltration can damage not only the underlying roof structure, but also walls, ceilings, and electrical systems.
Attempts to Repair the Old Roof
This past year, new leaks continued to appear and required repairs several times per month. Over time, the proper slope of the roof had also deteriorated in areas where water no longer drained as it should and instead pooled, causing further deformation of the roofing materials. We concluded that patching was no longer a viable solution – a roof replacement was necessary.
The New Roof Project
To restore proper drainage, the old roof was removed down to the metal decking. New insulation layers were installed, followed by a new waterproof membrane. Roof drains were replaced, new coping and flashing were installed on the parapet walls, new flashing was added around the ventilation units, and all seams were sealed. These steps have successfully stopped water from entering the rooms below. The total project cost was $129,410.

Problemos su senu stogu
Pastaraisiais metais pastebėjome, kad vanduo dažnai patekdavo į vakarinę pastato dalį, kai po lietaus rasdavome naujų dėmių lubų plokštėse Palaimintojo Jurgio Matulaičio misijos zakristijoje, Lietuvių Fondo ir Pasaulio lietuvių centro administracijos ofisuose bei konferencijų kambaryje. Rūpinomės, kad į pastatą prasiskverbiantis vanduo gali rimtai pakenkti ne tik stogo konstrukcijoms, bet ir sienoms, luboms bei jose esančiai elektros įrangai.
Bandymai sutaisyti seną stogą
Praėjusiais metais net kelis kartus per mėnesį kreipdavomės į stogininkus, kad apžiūrėtų stogą ir sutaisytų problemas, tačiau plyšių atsirasdavo taip dažnai, kad visų nespėjome užsandarinti. Be to, supratome, kad stogo reljefas per daugelį metų pasikeitė tiek, kad vanduo vietomis nebenutekėjo nuo stogo, o kaupėsi balose, toliau deformuodamas stogą. Nusprendėme, kad laikas lopyti stogą jau praėjęs ir reikia jį keisti iš pagrindų.
Naujo stogo projektas
Kad atstatytume tinkamą reljefą ir padėtume vandeniui vėl tekėti kaip turėtų, dabartinis stogas buvo nuimtas iki pamatinių metalinių plokščių, ant jų uždėti nauji izoliacijos sluoksniai ir uždengta nauja hidroizoliacine danga. Stogo nuotėkos buvo atnaujintos, uždėtos naujos metalinės skardos ant parapetų ir aplink vėdinimo įrangą, o siūlės užsandarintos. Šiais žingsniais buvo sėkmingai sustabdytas vandens pateikimas į pastatą. Visas projektas kainavo $129,410.
